Annual Conference - Terrigal NSW, September 2008
Pres Heather Leembruggen & VP Fred Runia
The United Way Australia annual conference in September enjoyed a number of milestones and accomplishments.
Under a theme of "United Way: Global Village. Stronger Network = Stronger Communities," Heather Leembruggen, Board Chair, welcomed conference delegates to an all-time record attendance!
All ten local United Ways participated, and the network celebrated the launch of the refreshed United Way brandmark and the first year of its inaugural National Executive Officer, Patrick McIntyre.
United Way Australia was delighted to host Brian Gallagher, President & CEO of United Way and three global team members for three days of essential learning and challenging discussion.
Key outcomes from the event consisted of:
· training for the launch and use of United eWay (Truist) in Australia, an on-line pledge facility for our workplace giving supporters;
· the importance of Community Impact to our work and future as a network;
· and the learning of promising practices promoting workplace engagement.
Significantly, participants workshopped and embraced the direction towards a system redesign of the United Way operation in Australia so as to reduce risk, increase efficiencies, and better position the network for growth, influence, and impact.
United Way Australia thanks Brian Gallagher, Joe Clawson, Mike Wood, and Frank Watson for sharing their expertise, and the United Way volunteers and staff who participated enthusiastically and declared they felt better informed and reinvigorated for the work!
